Tom Almonte takes an optimistic approach

Tom Almonte began working for the city in 2004 in the Economic Development and Equal Opportunity offices.
Tom Almonte came to Grand Rapids when he was 11 years old, and he probably traveled farther to get here than many transplants. The Almonte family — including his parents and two brothers — moved from tropical Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, to the much chillier banks of River City 26 years ago.
